Our Story


Rehab Support Systems (RSS) is a family-owned and operated company founded in 1996 by Pat and Tim Shaner, a father-son team dedicated to improving wheelchair mobility, functional positioning, and safety.

With Pat Shaner moving to other ventures, Tim Shaner, ATP, CRTS and Dave Namehas, ATP, CRTS continue the RSS legacy with decades of experience and dedication. RSS has developed a comprehensive restorative care program designed to address the unique needs of both patients and skilled nursing facilities. This program bridges the gap between nursing, therapy, and advanced mobility solutions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for individuals who require specialized wheelchair equipment, improved wheelchair mobility, functional positioning, and safety within a Long Term Care setting.

Tim Shaner - ATP, CRTS (#93128)

Founder

With a career rooted in a passion for improving mobility and function, Tim Shaner has been a driving force in the long-term care industry for nearly three decades. Introduced to the field as an orthotic/prosthetic consultant, Tim quickly developed a deep interest in body mechanics and the impact of positioning on overall health and independence. Recognizing a gap in quality care and support, he co-founded Rehab Support Systems (RSS) in 1996 with the mission to enhance the lives of long-term care residents through superior products, expert knowledge, and exceptional service.

As an Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and Certified Rehabilitation Technology Supplier (CRTS), Tim is committed to clinical excellence and continued education. He holds multiple certifications and is recognized by leading industry organizations including RESNA, NRRTS, and ISWP. Through RSS, Tim leads a team that prioritizes staff training and end-user education, ensuring that both caregivers and residents receive the tools and support they need.Tim’s dedication, experience, and leadership have positioned him as a trusted name in the field of assistive technology for long-term care. Dave Namehas is an experienced Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and Certified Rehabilitation Technology Supplier (CRTS) with a long-standing commitment to improving the lives of individuals with complex mobility needs. As Managing Partner and General Manager of Rehab Support Systems, Dave oversees daily operations and strategic initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of service, clinical integrity, and operational efficiency.With over 20 years in the rehabilitation technology field, Dave brings a deep understanding of both the clinical and business aspects of assistive technology. Trevor Shaner – ATP, CRTS

Trevor (Tre) Shaner has been part of Rehab Support Systems since infancy—literally. Born just months before his father founded the company, Tre was immersed in the world of rehabilitation technology from his earliest days. That upbringing not only shaped his understanding of the industry but also instilled in him a deep sense of purpose and passion. Today, he proudly continues his family’s legacy with unwavering dedication and exceptional professional expertise.

Trevor is both a RESNA-certified Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and a Certified Complex Rehabilitation Technology Supplier (CRTS), two of the highest distinctions in the field of mobility and rehabilitation. These credentials reflect not only his technical mastery but also his ethical commitment to the clients he serves. His training enables him to perform highly specialized evaluations, ensuring that each patient receives a mobility solution tailored precisely to their physical needs and personal lifestyle.

But for Tre, this work goes far beyond certifications. His true strength lies in the care and compassion he brings to every interaction. He believes that the right mobility equipment is not just about function—it’s about restoring independence, confidence, and dignity. Trevor takes the time to truly understand his clients, working closely with facility staff, family members, and end users to craft a collaborative, empowering experience from start to finish.

Carlos Roca - RRTS

Field Representative

With a strong background in manufacturing, Carlos Roca brings expert knowledge of wheelchair customization to Rehab Support Systems. He has been in the Durable Medical Equipment industry since 2010, working as a manufacturer representative before joining the company in 2015. His extensive experience makes him a trusted specialist in power wheelchairs, ensuring patients receive the best mobility solutions tailored to their needs.


Carlos holds multiple industry certifications, including Registered Rehabilitation Technology Supplier and Wheelchair Service Provider, as well as credentials from top manufacturers like Sunrise Medical, Pride Mobility, and CTM. His bilingual abilities allow him to serve a diverse range of patients, providing clear communication and exceptional care.


When he’s not working, Carlos enjoys spending quality time with his family and hitting the golf course for a relaxing day outdoors.

Amber Gallardo

Physician Liaison & Team Leader

Amber Gallardo has been a dedicated member of the Rehab Support Systems team since 2015, serving as a Physician Liaison and Team Leader. With over 20 years of experience in customer service, Amber brings a deep well of knowledge, empathy, and commitment to her role—ensuring clients receive the highest level of care and support throughout their rehab journey.

Her expertise spans the intricate world of complex rehab, where she excels in coordinating care among end users, physicians, insurance providers, and rehab teams. Amber’s deep understanding of these systems enables her to streamline processes and expedite claims and services with remarkable efficiency. Her goal is always to create a seamless experience for RSS clients, whom she serves with pride and unwavering compassion.

Reimbursement Specialist

With nearly three decades of experience in the Durable Medical Equipment industry, Alicia McDermott is a true expert in her field. Since starting in 1995, she has become a master of Brightree and all things billing, making her an essential part of the Rehab Support Systems team.
Alicia is dedicated to staying current with evolving insurance guidelines and policy changes, constantly sharpening her skills to ensure accurate, timely reimbursements and smooth processes for patients and providers alike.
Outside of work, Alicia is a proud mom to a son and daughter who excel in sports like basketball and soccer. Most weekends, you’ll find her cheering them on as they compete on their travel teams.

Michael Sieg

Physician Liaison

Michael Sieg brings a wealth of experience to Rehab Support Systems, where he has been an integral part of the team since 2021. With a strong foundation in medical billing and insurance coding—having graduated from United Education Institute as Valedictorian in 2016—Michael has held various roles in the durable medical equipment industry, gaining extensive knowledge of the business. As Physician Liaison, he oversees intake and marketing for all new patients, ensures the creation and follow-up of medically necessary documentation, and provides essential support to the team with his deep industry expertise. His dedication to patient care and efficiency makes him a vital asset to the organization.


Outside of work, Michael is a devoted family man who enjoys spending time with his wife and son. In his free time, you can find him cheering on his favorite baseball and football teams.

Debbie Sandwald

Customer Service Representative

Debbie Sanwald brings over 20 years of experience in the skilled nursing facility industry to her role at Rehab Support Systems. Having originally joined RSS in 2013, she returned in 2024 to lend her expertise and provide valuable support to the office team.


As a Customer Service Representative, Debbie plays a flexible and essential role, assisting with day-to-day tasks and ensuring smooth operations throughout the office. Her background as a business office manager and her deep understanding of the healthcare environment make her a dependable and knowledgeable team member.

Mike Shaner

Wheelchair Technician

Mike Shaner brings a diverse background and a strong work ethic to his role as Wheelchair Technician at Rehab Support Systems. Originally part of the team from 2005 to 2007, Mike returned in 2024, bringing with him valuable experience from sales roles in real estate and Verizon Wireless.


Today, Mike is responsible for building customized wheelchairs, managing inventory and warehouse workflow, handling equipment returns, and ensuring quality assurance across all equipment. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence play a key role in delivering reliable, high-quality products to patients.
Outside of work, Mike is a devoted husband and proud father of two exceptionally bright children who consistently earn academic awards and recognition.

Luis Moreno

Wheelchair Technician

Luis first joined Rehab Support Systems in 2018 and returned in 2022, bringing back his dedication and hands-on expertise. In his role as Wheelchair Technician, Luis is responsible for assembling customized wheelchairs and ensuring that all delivery vehicles are properly maintained and ready for safe, reliable use.


In addition to his work at RSS, Luis is actively training to become an ambulance operator for San Bernardino County Fire, further demonstrating his passion for service and community care.


Luis’s attention to detail and commitment to both patient mobility and operational safety make him a valuable asset to the team.

Hector Toldeo

Wheelchair Technician

Hector Toledo joined Rehab Support Systems in 2025, bringing with him a strong background in hands-on service and logistics. As a Wheelchair Technician, he is responsible for building customized wheelchairs and managing warehouse receiving, playing a key role in ensuring patients receive the equipment they need with accuracy and care.
Before joining RSS, Hector spent 17 years as a delivery driver, gaining extensive experience in transportation and customer service. He also owns and operates a mobile detailing business, has provided janitorial services for over 15 years, and has worked as a personal driver for the past 5 years.
Hector’s diverse work history reflects his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic—qualities that make him a valuable member of the RSS team.
